THE SWITCH, discounted.
I feel like I’m coming to a crossroads with this newsletter. It’s been fun, writing in a new way, and I have generated a short book’s worth of material with these essays. On the other hand, I could have written some other book using that time. Lately I’ve been more interested in revising and writing fiction, than in composing essays for the Substack.
And how long can I really keep plundering my life for personal essays? As for opinion pieces, I only have a strong, original opinion maybe once a year.
So I’m considering putting the newsletter on hiatus. But before I interrupt the weekly release schedule, I figure I should do a bit more promotion. After all, the original purpose of setting this thing up was to hopefully sell books.
My novel The Switch is currently on sale for 99 cents. If you’ve enjoyed anything you’ve read in this newsletter, I think you should check out The Switch, because in my humble opinion this urban fantasy is better than anything I’ve written for Substack. https://tinyurl.com/y2zmk4wa
The story: Beth is a witch living in New York, who has lost her powers due to a meth addiction, and who owes a lot of money to a local warlock. Her girlhood friend Kris shows up: a shitkicker witch, part cowboy, part samurai; Kris doesn’t know about the sorry state of her friend’s powers, and wants to offer her a spot in a new coven that’s being set up someplace in Europe. Instead Beth steals Kris’s grimoire, and uses it to steal her estranged daughter’s body, forcibly switching places with her. She only intends to use the body for a day or so, as part of a gambit she’s come up with to get out of her jam with the warlock. But then she begins to find the allure of reclaimed youth too sweet to give up.
Sorry, but I do think it’s pretty awesome. I think that if you like this sort of thing, then you will like this example of it. Please check it out: https://tinyurl.com/y2zmk4wa
